Governments should Re-educate the world

The power of corporate advertising needs to be used to challenge the "consensus trance" mindset of Mr & Mrs Suburbia.

Governments must run peak oil taskforces and find answers and develop plans for their nations quickly!

Then we need a "war-time proganda" machine that takes the focus off the slight threat of terrorism and puts peak oil firmly on the agenda.

We need to retrain the “oil unemployed” in vital new local industries.

My current suggestions (could change):
We need to masively upgrade rail services across our cities and landscapes.

We need to retrain all the "oil unemployed".

So let's retrain our landscapes by retraining some of our oil unemployed!

The process of finding new work for the oil unemployed, and finding solutions for peak oil, can work hand in hand.

Imagine all those Boeing employees, car manufacturering plants and other oil unemployed industries being put to use mass producing all the rail, carriages, and components of a rail network. Imagine various plastic toy manufactuers now working to produce all the widgets and accessories that would build railway stations and support services. Try to visualize how your industry might be affected by oil depletion, and then imagine it working towards the solution... a rail and bicycle culture.

Industries can be switched around quickly — just remember World War 2 and the massive wartime effort. This is an emergency, it's time to pressure our governments and corporations into seeing the problem and taking action!

I think we need government inquiries and big government programs to get through this. The marketplace mainly works to supply what people want (cars, a McMansion in the suburbs, etc.) The market has no authority to dicate or impose solutions on society in times of national crisis. That is the role of democratically elected government.

The market deals in what can be provided and sold.

The government deals in what should be provided and used.

For societal stability, I can only hope that prejudices against silly agendas like "communism" are put behind us, as we embark on a bold new phase of reconstruction — converting our cities into New Urban zones.
