The Campaign

Mission statement

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
— Margaret Mead

Pertinent comment from energybulletin.net

“What sort of relations can be built with local youth and student groups and other fringe dwellers focusing on an information campaign about peak oil as the underlying problem fuelling globalization, oil wars and the disaster of global warming?

Some possibilities for action are: ..... encourage the stencil and graffiti artists to go political about it; organise ongoing poster/leaflet campaigns; form letters to government, corporate and union functionaries; online petitions; letters to the editor; indie 'end time' gigs; sit ins; rallies and whatever else comes to mind."

What we do

EclipseNow.org promotes public access to the facts of oil depletion. We supply professionally designed peak oil posters for free. By referring back to eclipsenow.org the posters can —

  1. introduce newcomers to the subject
  2. quickly refer newcomers to oil professionals and academics for expert information and the latest news
  3. provide a cheap and immediate form of campaigning — free posters
  4. gradually generate a positive feedback loop informing thousands, so that eventually we have a poster in every English-speaking library and university on the planet.
  5. Facilitate peakniks forming local groups

What we want the public to do

Only a massive grassroots movement will create enough interest to demand change. Our posters introduce the public to oil depletion at the local level, as quickly and cheaply as possible. Of course, this campaign depends on your involvement and thousands of people like you. Once we have a “critical mass” of public awareness, our governments will have to respond.

Governments are not 'the enemy', especially local governments. Please listen to this interview with a Californian Mayor on how to approach local government in your campaign.

EclipseNow.org is not really about the answers to Peak Oil. Eclipse is about raising the questions. There are plenty of organizations and websites that recommend various solutions. We just want the problem acknowledged by both governments and the mainstream media. We want the world to know that the most colossal failure in public policy ever was to construct our entire civilization on the foundations of a vanishing resource.

As members of an industrialized civilization we must cry out with one voice and demand that our governments take action now. We must eclipse ourselves or we will be eclipsed.
